CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Former Edmonton Oilers captain Jason Smith faces charges of domestic assault and confinement.

The Calgary Police Service confirmed Thursday that Smith was arrested after police were called to his southwest Calgary home Aug. 10.

The 36-year-old Smith is charged with assaulting his wife and daughter and faces another count of confining his wife.

Smith was released on $1,000 bail and the conditions he have no contact with his wife, two daughters or his wife's parents. He was granted one exception to send his daughter a birthday card, according to court documents. The former player also is prohibited from returning to his home in Greely, Ontario, and was ordered not to consume alcohol or other intoxicating substances or possess weapons.

Smith spent eight seasons with the Oilers and also played for New Jersey, Toronto, Philadelphia and Ottawa during his 15-year NHL career. At 15-1, Donovan McNabb could also be worth a look. Remember, many felt he was the MVP of the first half of the season before going down with a season ending injury. Reportedly, he is in great shape and well ahead of schedule to return to form. Also, he could have some added motivation to put up big numbers this season with the Eagles using their first pick in the draft on McNabb’s future successor Kevin Kolb.

American Idol Betting Odds: Season 6

A talented beat-boxer Blake Lewis was a hit during the group sing in Hollywood but Simon explained that this is a singing contest just before he told him he was “in.”

Paul Kim has caught our own roving reporter, Jenny Woo's eyes.
