05/27/2010 - Detroit, MI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Detroit Red Wings on Thursday signed defenseman Brendan Smith to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Smith, taken 27th overall by Detroit in the 2007 draft, was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award last season after leading the nation in defense scoring with 15 goals and 52 points while playing at Wisconsin.

The Ontario native registered 26 goals and 61 assists during his three years with the Badgers.
